In 2010, Geshe Michael began teaching Pabongka Rinpoche’s masterpiece “The Gift of Liberation Thrust into the Palm of your Hand”, a written recording of an oral teaching given in 1921 over 24 days. This epic undertaking covers all the steps on the path (known as Lam Rim) and gives us clear instructions on how to reach each of the realizations along the way.
With over 1300 hours of teaching so far on this book, all recorded and archived in the Asian Classics Institute, we will begin teaching the Lam Rim again starting in January 2024. Each week we will have a live class with Timothy Lowenhaupt, Executive Director of the Asian Classics Institute, to draw out the key learnings in order to apply them directly into our daily lives.
In addition to finding the immediate ways to live the Lam Rim in our daily lives, the other goal of these classes is to train translators in the Lam Rim and its unique language, so we can publish Geshe Michael’s live teachings just like Trijang Rinpoche published Pabongka Rinpoche’s live presentation from 1921.
The first classes will focus on the chapter on meditation, where we will learn the details on how to meditate well and how to meditate on each of the steps on the path. While Pabongka Rinpoche waited until the end of his 24 day teaching to cover the principles of meditation, we are going to cover them first. This approach will ensure that the Lam Rim isn’t just an intellectual pursuit; it then will become a living, breathing practice from day one. We will make the Lam Rim an embodied experience, seamlessly integrating its key steps into our daily lives, to create and inspire transformation right from the start.
