During the last two years, in silent retreats at Diamond Mountain Retreat Center, we’ve learned and meditated upon the great ideas of the Diamond Cutter Sutra. We’ve used the ancient Indian commentary of Master Kamalashila, with secrets that haven’t been explored for over a thousand years. In the final teaching of this series, the Buddha answers five mysterious questions from his student, Subhuti. Somewhere in the answers to all these questions is the key to getting everything we want in our life. We’ll explore the inside of our minds during the all-day retreat, following a daily, dawn session, exploring these questions. You’ll also learn new parts of the Lion’s Dance that we’ve never covered before to go deeper.

Geshe Michael included a section from The Jewel of Realization, spoken by Lord Maitreya and written down by Arya Asanga describing the Buddha’s Marks and Signs, as well as a selection from A lamp Which Illuminates the Hidden Meaning composed of notes to a teaching by the great Konchok Tenpay Drunme of Gungtang, which explains the karmic correlations of the Buddha’s Marks and Signs.

A unique opportunity to delve deeply into rarely taught meditations on emptiness: Master Kamalashila’s meditations on the Diamond Cutter Sutra, one of the most important teachings on emptiness, have not been widely taught in the last thousand years.
During the first 4 days of the Kamalashila Retreat, students had a morning session with Geshe Michael to learn the day’s meditations, and then spend the rest of the day in the retreat cottages practicing. Those morning sessions are what you’ll find the video and audio for here. For the final 3 days, students the had the opportunity to dive deeper into the meditations on their own.

AN INTRO TO MASTER KAMALASHILA’S COMMENTARY TO THE DIAMOND CUTTER SUTRA
On a recent trip to Xi'an, China Geshe Michael and a small group of people were invited to climb to the top of Zhongnan Mountain and take a tour of the very beautiful Clear Karma Temple being restored there. This mountain range is famous for being the place where where Taoist sage Laozi is said to have dwelt and conveyed the Dao De Jing. While at the top and in the teaching hall of this temple Geshe Michael gave a teaching on Master Kamilashila's commentary to The Diamond Cutter Sutra.
